How to Pack

Packing a head with blond leaf tobacco for shisha is an art and should be done with precision. The first step is to choose the right tobacco. German flue-cured Virginian blond leaf tobacco is the best for shisha, as it produces a smooth, creamy smoke without any bite or harshness. Once you have the right blend, it's time to prepare for packing. Make sure that the leaves have been cut into small pieces and that there are no large chunks of unprocessed material.

Next, grab a fork and add some of the tobacco into your funnel bowl. Depending on your bowl size and desired smoking session, this may vary.

However, most people put 10-12g in a funnel bowl for a 90-minute session. This also depends on the quality of the tobacco, but this is a rule of thumb. 

You don't want to overpack because this will make it harder for air to pass through and could cause uneven burning or even scorching of the leaf.

To help smoothen your session, increase your head's lifespan, and enjoy the flavour, ensure the tobacco is "fluff" packed. Fluff packing means separating the leaves to make them loose and soft (opposite of compact).

Make sure the tobacco is not too close to the rim, as if the tobacco touches the foil, this too can cause it to burn quicker. Allow for at least 1mm below the top edge.

Finally, once you've finished packing, cover everything with a layer of aluminium foil with the shiny side down.

If your foil doesn't come with holes, puncture enough holes at the top of the bowl to ensure maximum airflow.

Most Enthusiasts love thick foil to help increase the session's life; however, standard aluminium foil from the kitchen is also acceptable.
